| Nicolas Papageorgiou: Percussionist
Nicolas Papageorgiou studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London (1993-97), followed by postgraduate studies at the Amsterdam Conservatoire (Sweelinck Conservatorium) (1997-98).
He is, since 1999 Principal Timpanist of the Cyprus State Orchestra. He has performed in Cyprus, Greece, England, Holland, Germany, Poland and France, where he also recorded, as vibraphone soloist with the Capella of the Kremlin of Moscow, R. Gousseau’s “Vepres de Millenaire”.
In Cyprus he regularly appears as recitalist and chamber musician, and has recently formed the Cyprus Contemporary Music Ensemble, which gave its first performance in April 2002.
He has also performed, as a soloist with the Cyprus State orchestra, the first ever performance of a percussion concerto in Cyprus.
He has on several occasions collaborated with the National Theatre of Cyprus, including the Athens Festival at ancient Epidaurus, and with the experimental Dance/Theatre Group Echo Arts, most recently for the Cyprus European Dance Festival 2002 and the Cairo Experimental Theatre Festival.
Other recent appearances include a performance of Iannis Xenakis’ Rebonds in a tribute concert to the music of the composer, organized by the Greek Embassy in Cyprus and the Cyprus Composers Centre, and an appearance as one of the three soloists in a concert featuring the music of the composer Christos Pittas at the Athens concert hall.
